Eligibility

What are the Community Foundation's eligibility requirements?
  • Applicant must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
  • Organizations must be located in, or serving Greensboro and/or Guilford County
    • With the exception of organizations providing direct services for uninsured and underinsured populations who may be located in or serving Guilford, Randolph, and Rockingham County.
  • Requests may be up to $25,000.
  • If you are in the midst of a two-year grant (year one of two) you are not eligible to apply until that grant has concluded.
  • Grants are not awarded to organizations with outstanding grant reports due.
  • Grants are not awarded to individuals.
  • The Community Foundation does not fund sponsorships and festivals
  • As we work to prioritize equity in our grantmaking process, board and staff diversity along with the total operating budget will be considered by staff and respective grantmaking committees; all applications will be reviewed regardless of budget size.
  • Public schools or other public agencies will not receive grants, although they may be involved as partners in funded efforts.
  • Priority is given to grant proposals that focus on long-term, scalable strategies to advance and sustain the Community Foundation’s focus on cultural vibrancy, economic mobility, and health and wellness.

Cultural Vibrancy

The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro is particularly interested in funding organizations whose programs and projects bolster cultural vibrancy, programs and projects which bring together diverse, multi-generational audiences across lines of difference.  

Economic Mobility

For residents to become economically mobile, they must have a strong economic foundation. With that, the Community Foundation is committed to funding organization’s whose work encompasses the following:

  • Workforce Development and Education
  • Small Business and Entrepreneurship
  • Access to Workforce Housing

Health and Wellness

At the Community Foundation, we recognize that health and wellness is a foundational component of any thriving community. With that, we recognize that residents must have the opportunity to age with dignity and access to services which foster health and wellness for the whole person. The Community Foundation is particularly interested in funding the following:

  • Capital cost, capital expansions, or capital equipment for eldercare facilities throughout Greensboro.
  • Direct services for uninsured and underinsured populations in Guilford, Randolph, and Rockingham County.
  • Increased access to fresh, healthy, and nourishing food in Guilford County.

Yes! The Community Foundation encourages organizations to collaborate on projects which aim to bolster cultural vibrancy, economic mobility, or health and wellness within the respective funding locations.

Financials

What is the maximum amount of funding my organization can apply for?

Organizations can apply for up to $25,000 during the 2025 grant cycle. However, organizations should also consider “tipping” when applying for funding, as the Community Foundation will not fund a request that is more than 30% of an organization’s operational budget. Learn more about tipping here.

    • Please note: The Community Foundation provides a proposal budget template in the application. Organizations must use the proposal budget template, or the request for funding will not be considered.
  • Latest available fiscal year end statement or audit
  • Current income statement or balance sheet
    • Please submit a balance sheet similar to the example Do not submit a bank statement.
  • Organization Budget

The budget template is linked to the project budget question in the application. The project budget template is also publicly available here.

Organizations can submit a fiscal year end statement in place of an audit.

Submitting an Application

How do I submit an application?

Grant applications must be submitted electronically through the Online Grant Portal.

The online grant portal can be accessed via the Community Foundation’s Nonprofit Grants and Resources page, or by clicking here.

If you are unsure of whether your organization has an Online Grant Portal account, please reach out to grants@cfgg.org before creating a new account. If there is an existing account, Community Foundation staff can add you as a user. If there is not an existing account, you can create a new account via the Online Grant Portal.

The login page has a “forgot your password” button on the log-in page. Please do not reach out to staff to reset your password before utilizing this option.

Evaluation

Does the Community Foundation have any resources available to assist with the design of outputs and outcomes?

For additional information on developing metrics, please review the Metrics Bank or Measuring What Matters created by the Walton Family Foundation. The W.K. Kellog Foundation Logic Model Development Guide may be another valuable resource.

Timeline

What is the timeline for this year’s grant cycle?

The grant cycle will open on June 1st and close on July 15th. Diligence will be conducted from mid-July to early August. Organizations will be selected for a site visit on a case-by-case basis and notified in early to mid-August. Program staff and committee members attend site visits. The respective grantmaking committee will make a recommendation to the Community Foundation’s board at the September board meeting. Decisions will be shared in early September. Checks will be cut by January 31, 2026.

Decisions

How are decisions made?

Funding recommendations are made by the Community Foundation’s Grants Committee, Housing Committee, or Weill Fund Advisory Committee before going to the full Community Foundation board for approval. Committees are composed of board members and community leaders.
