Seeds of Change: Celebrating the Transformative Power of Black Philanthropy

Thank you to everyone who joined the Black Investments in Greensboro (BIG) Equity Fund for this year’s Black Philanthropy Month Celebration. The event brought community members together to recognize the transformative power of Black generosity and collective investment.

Guests had the honor of hearing from Dr. Naccaman “Nac” Williams, who shared insights shaped by nearly three decades at the Walton Family Foundation. Dr. Williams has dedicated his career to expanding access to opportunity in education and beyond. His remarks reinforced the important role philanthropy can play in advancing equity and creating lasting change.

During the celebration, the Black Investments in Greensboro Equity Fund also presented a grant to the D.R.E.A.M.S. Collective in recognition and support of its meaningful work in the community. The D.R.E.A.M.S. Collective provides hands-on STEM education and mentorship to marginalized youth in Greensboro. Through accessible learning opportunities, the organization equips young people with technology skills while helping close the digital divide.

The event highlighted BIG’s vision of building a sustainable philanthropic resource led by and for Greensboro’s Black community. With a $3 million goal for its initial endowment, BIG offers an opportunity to build a multigenerational legacy while addressing social injustice and inequity throughout our community.

Black Philanthropy Month may be a time of celebration, but this important work continues throughout the year. We are grateful to everyone committed to creating a more equitable Greensboro. Together, we are investing in a stronger future by turning generosity into lasting impact.
