Buddy Weill Fund Makes a Splash

$1 million grant will fund new Well-Spring aquatic facility

The Charles L. Buddy Weill Fund, a permanent endowment of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, has announced a $1 million grant to Well-Spring, a life plan community, to support the construction of a new and expanded aquatic and fitness facility. The grant is a distribution from a significant bequest to the Community Foundation by Mr. Charles L. “Buddy” Weill, who passed away in 2020.

“Buddy’s vision for enhancing the lives of older adults in our community continues to guide our work on behalf of the Weill Fund,” said Walker Sanders, President of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro. “Through partnerships with exceptional nonprofits like Well-Spring, we are helping more older residents of the Triad live longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.”

Well-Spring’s leadership has been actively collaborating with architects and designers to develop a state-of-the-art fitness center that builds upon its existing infrastructure while introducing new features tailored to the evolving needs of today’s and tomorrow’s residents.

“We are deeply grateful to the Weill Fund and the Community Foundation for recognizing and supporting our vision for resident wellness,” said Misti Ridenour, Executive Director of Well-Spring Life Plan Community. “Today’s older adults increasingly expect comprehensive fitness options, and this generous grant will help us realize an expanded Aquatic & Fitness Center that meets those expectations and prepares us for the future.”

The million-dollar grant is the largest gift from the Weill Fund to date, and it will be distributed in $200,000 installments over the next five years. Tim Rice, Chair of the Weill Fund advisory committee said, “This gift, one of many more to come, reflects a long-term commitment to making Greensboro the premier region in the U.S. for facilities and services for older adults.”
