Say Yes to Education – Guilford is a nonprofit that revitalizes communities by helping them give every eligible public high school graduate access to college or other postsecondary scholarships. Say Yes Guilford community partnerships also make available supports and services to develop the gifts and talents of each child.
Helping more high schoolers “say yes” to college.
In 2015, representatives of Guilford Education Alliance, Guilford County Schools, the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, and High Point Community Foundation came together to help bring Say Yes to Education to our community.
Guilford County competed with more than two dozen mid-sized cities and counties throughout the United States to become the next community-wide chapter of this national nonprofit based in New York. This “competition” became a robust, organic, and community-wide undertaking, involving volunteers from all corners of Guilford, and was one of the most successful fundraising efforts in the county’s history. Needless to say, we won.
Why is this initiative important to our community?
Say Yes Guilford helps public school students in Guilford County get the support they need to graduate from high school and be ready for post-secondary success. This support starts with the youngest learners and continues until students graduate from college or post-secondary programs. In addition, the program provides last-dollar tuition scholarships to Guilford County Schools graduates so they can afford to complete college or a post-secondary certificate.

As the program has taken shape, Say Yes Guilford has brought together major stakeholders with an interest in education, including representatives from throughout the Guilford County Schools, parents, students, government officials, business leaders, philanthropists, and faith-based organizations to raise funds for Say Yes scholarships.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters throughout Guilford County who also recognized the potential of Say Yes, as of the Guilford chapter’s official launch in 2015, nearly half of the funds needed to fully support a $70 million endowment had already been raised.
