It’s safe to say that if you were a child, had or have a child in Guilford County, Mildred O. Poole made your life better. Kids have a true champion in Mildred, whose tireless passion and commitment is unparalleled and spans decades.
Mildred has held numerous leadership positions in the Parent Teacher Association at the local, state and national levels. They include president of the Walter H. Page High School PTA; president of the Guilford County Council of PTAs; and board member and officer of the North Carolina PTA. She represented North Carolina to eight national PTA conventions.
As a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, Mildred lent her expertise to numerous working committees. She also served as the board chair for Communities in Schools of Greater Greensboro. Some of the other organizations benefitting from her wisdom include the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro; Juvenile Crime Prevention Council; the Guilford County Enrichment Fund; and Say Yes Guilford.
In her working life, Mildred was a pioneer in the telecommunications industry, paving the way for women and minorities as an electronic technician for Bellsouth/AT&T.
