Greensboro, NC – Joseph M. Bryan, Jr. was named the 2017 recipient of the Thornton H. Brooks Leadership Award from the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro. The award recognizes extraordinary volunteer service and leadership to the Community Foundation. It was presented at a luncheon ceremony Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club during the Wyndham Championship. Bryan’s nephew, Bryan Taylor, accepted the award on his behalf.
The award was named for Thornton H. Brooks, one of the founders of the Community Foundation. According to the Foundation president, Walker Sanders, “Thornton was an exemplary servant leader who served the Community Foundation in any way that was asked of him, and he did it humbly and quietly. His vision of the how the Foundation could benefit the community was essential in shaping its mission and future. This award honors those who serve with his spirit.”
According to his nomination, “Joe Bryan is a supporter of the Community Foundation’s Public Art Endowment and was an early supporter of the Tanger Center. He also invested in Festival Park and worked closely with the Community Foundation on that project. Joe has a quiet leadership style that embodies the spirit of the award. He has been very involved in all sorts of community causes and has been a major donor to many nonprofits here in town, many times anonymously.”
The luncheon was sponsored by the Wyndham Championship and BBT.
