Irving Zavaleta serves on the board of the Latino Community Coalition of Guilford County, presides as the board chair of Student Action with Farmworkers, and volunteers with the LGBTQ Task force for Guilford County Schools. Irving is the founder of Soy un Lider (I'm a Leader), a college preparatory and empowerment conference for Latino and international students in Guilford, Forsyth and Alamance Counties. Soy un Lider is the only one of its kind in North Carolina. The conference has supported over 2,000 students in the last 10 years, earning a statewide and national presence within the Latino and international communities.
At Guilford College, Irving works with students as the Assistant Direct & Latin Community Coordinator in the Multicultural Department where he advises numerous students and programs including the Bayard Rustin Center and the Multi-Cultural Leadership Scholars Program. When Irving is not providing motivational speeches, he loves to dance with both old and new friends.
