Unsung Community Heroes Step onto the Pitcher’s Mound and into the Spotlight

Greensboro, NC – For the third year, the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro is teaming up with the Greensboro Grasshoppers to recognize local “Game Changers” who make the greater Greensboro area an even better place to live and work. Suggested by community members, Game Changers are selected to represent the wide range of civic and volunteer contributions in the community that often take place quietly away from the spotlight, but make a significant impact on the quality of life for Greensboro.

After each Saturday home game, the Game Changer is escorted by a staff member from the Community Foundation to the pitcher’s mound, where their work is recognized in front of all the fans. They are then presented with a team signed Louisville Slugger bat.

The 2017 Game Changers are (in alphabetical order):

Sadie Blue
Buck Cochran
Amber Graning
Robbielene Lawhorn
Chase Holleman
Tiffany Lam-Balfour
Otis Lockett, Jr
Mariana Rodriguez-Pardy
Mildred Poole
Jeffrey Walden, MD

The Game Changer being honored at the April 8 home game is Amber Graning. According to her nominator, Amber has a passion and love for the city of Greensboro like no other. She started her community service as an Americorps member with the Salvation Army Center of Hope while she held two additional part-time jobs. She helped people identify the type of services they needed, and coached them towards self-sufficiency by providing information about housing, transportation, and budgeting.
